What are we to make of 1 Peter 4:5-6:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>They will face a reckoning before<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30436a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup> Jesus Christ<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30436b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup> who stands ready to judge the living and the dead. <sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>Now it was for this very purpose<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30437c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup> that the gospel was preached to those who are now dead,<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30437d\">d<\/a>]<\/sup> so that though<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30437e\">e<\/a>]<\/sup> they were judged in the flesh<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30437f\">f<\/a>]<\/sup> by human standards<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30437g\">g<\/a>]<\/sup> they may live spiritually<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30437h\">h<\/a>]<\/sup> by God\u2019s standards.<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+pet+4.5-6&amp;version=NET#fen-NET-30437i\">i<\/a>]<\/sup> (NET)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few thoughts on this passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"1 Peter 4:5-6 - proclaiming the gospel to the dead?\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IB-QXMIRQeA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are lots of details to debate in this passage.
